Campaigning for Alyn & Deeside and Delyn

How come Cymdeithas are first to know?

Eleanor Burnham has reacted with amazement after Cymdeithas yr Iaith revealed that the draft order to devolve powers over the Welsh Language is to be published on January 10.

The long awaited piece of legislation has been the subject of a series of delays and disappointments so far.

Mrs Burnham said: "I am astounded that the first we have heard about the publication of the Welsh Language LCO has come from Cymdeithas yr Iaith.

"The Secretary of State for Wales was asked about this in the Assembly just last week, but refused to be drawn on an exact date.

"My only hope now is that the long wait has been worthwhile. It is only right that decisions about one of Wales' national languages should be taken in Wales. I hope the legislation will give our National Assembly the full range of powers, to allow us to produce effective laws which nurture and support the Welsh language."
